Seto Ware Luzhu-Oribe Style Jar with Stamped Flower Design
The jar fired in Seto in the late Edo period. A type of green glaze ware called Luzhu, derived from Luzon island in the Philippines, is the symbolic term for the exotic mood at that time, and it uses a copper glaze over an stamped pattern. This piece is distinctively designed as a two-tone glaze, with the lower half coated with a yellow-brown glaze. It is a scarce and unique piece, including its longer than usual dimensions, and its distinctive shape is reminiscent of European fork pottery. The way the two types of glaze blend and flow down creates a captivating scenery.
This type of jar is usually used as an Ohaguro, blackened teeth lacquer container and are highly damaged. However, this piece is in excellent condition. Apart from some chips on the rim and base, there are no other noticeable defects.
