Joseon Dynasty White Porcelain Bowl

¥100,000 JPY

A white porcelain bowl fired in the early Joseon dynasty. An example of skilled work produced at a Bunwon (official kiln) established in Gwangju. The vessel rises from a high foot with a rounded hip, tapering gently inward towards the lip. A subtle banded line defines its flat rim, while traces of sand remain inside the foot. The elegant form, reminiscent of a monk’s begging bowl, reflects a period when Buddhism, though diminished, retained a degree of acceptance. The piece embodies the purity and understated grace characteristic of Bunwon ware, making it particularly suited for appreciation.

The rim is slightly distorted into an oval shape, and the foot’s interior surface is somewhat rough. However, aside from these minor irregularities, the bowl remains in excellent condition. It is accompanied by a wooden box.
