Yuan Dynasty Cizhou-type Ware White Slip Plate

ARCHIVED

A plain white plate fired in one of the Cizhou-type ware kilns in the Yuan dynasty. The engobe was applied on a greyish clay, and glazing with transparent glaze on it. There are six small stacking marks evenly on the surface.

The rimmed flat shape is probably inspired by the Song dynasty style. The pale pink stain that covers half of the surface of the plate resembles the scene that filling with the tranquillity of the waterside where shrouded in mist.

There are some glaze flakings on the rim and the backside, but the condition of the vessel surface is extremely good. There are no defects such as cracks and chips, and it is ideal for practical use.
