Phayao Kingdom Green Glazed Vase with Binate Spiral Appliques Design

ARCHIVED

A small jar baked in the Kingdom of Phayao (1094–1338), located between Lan Na and Sukhothai. Dark green glaze is applied to the ash-tinted reddish-brown clay, and binate spiral appliques and incised dots lines are designed. The combination of curves and straight silhouette follows the flow of Dvaravati and Khmer pottery. The decoration by the appliqué and incised techniques shows the interaction with the San Kampan kiln and Si Satchanalai kiln (Mon period) of the same period.

Although there is slight glaze flaking, the condition is generally good. Since there is no water leakage, it would be suitable as a flower vase.
