Seto Ware Oribe-Style Lidded Square Bowl with Plum Blossom Design, Set of 5
A set of five E-Seto mukōzuke dishes with lids from the late Edo period, each crafted in a square form with cut-out corners. The lids and bodies are adorned with delicate plum blossoms and pine needle motifs, with sections highlighted by a vibrant green glaze. Among the group called E-Seto, examples of Momoyama tea pottery reproductions are called “Fukko-Oribe (revival Oribe)”. The gracefully sculpted handle atop the lid and the two decorative ears on the body enhance the refined elegance of the design. The surface is covered in a richly textured network of crazing, adding to its visual appeal.
One dish has a repaired crack on the corner of its lid, another has a chip on the corner, and a third bears a small chip on one of its ears. Despite these imperfections, the set remains in good overall condition.
